Charlevoix Main Street Mission

The mission of the Charlevoix Main Street program is to strengthen the year-round economic vitality of our vibrant historic business district through community efforts, events, and public/private partnerships while fostering a sense of community pride and ownership.

The program has prioritized the following overarching goals:

  • Create the physical layout and amenities, and sustaining resources that demonstrate Charlevoix’s commitment to year-round health &    wellness/healthy living
  • Develop a sustainable downtown that provides year-round economic opportunities to the greater Charlevoix community.

Desired Future State

Downtown Charlevoix is a beautiful, green, year-round community with a demonstrated commitment to the health and well-being of residents and visitors alike, and sustainable economic opportunities that invite active participation in all that Charlevoix has to offer.

About Main Street

Over the past 30 years the Main Street movement has established an excellent history of transforming the way communities think about the revitalization and management of their downtowns. Cities and towns across the nation have come to see that a prosperous, sustainable community is only as healthy as its core.

Michigan Main Street Program Participation

In March of 2015 Charlevoix was awarded the honor to participate in the Michigan Main Street program which offers, to specially chosen communities, five years of intensive technical assistance with a focus on revitalization strategies for their downtown central business district. This program is designed to attract:

  • Business investment
  • Economic growth
  • Job creation
  • New residents

Charlevoix Main Street Vision

Our Downtown captures the spirit of community and is a place to live, work, and play. We are an innovative waterfront downtown that is dedicated to year-round economic sustainability through economic development, community collaboration, and historic preservation.
